In this world, a reality starlet had ten well-tended plastic surgeries.
In this world, Haitian children's limbs were cut off with no anesthesia.
In this world, Survivors thrived as a 'reality' television show.
In this world, how many Haitians died no one can know.
Are we one world, as so many now attest?
When the music stops and the stars move on to other causes, other shows
The lost and broken ones move off the screen but they exist
In this world.

Powerful, Diane.
You've summarized the unbalance of our world very well.
That was me BTW - Pam :)
Who knew you were so poetic?! You make a very good point in few words...
Yes, my friends and I were just talking about this today...what will happen when all of the spotlights turn off of Haiti and move onto something else? The same thing that was happening there when we all ignored the hell those people were living in before the earthquake. Nothing.
Love, this, Diane. "Reality TV" is no longer just an oxymoron -- you show it to be the obscenity it really is. Television is the opiate of the masses.
Very powerful piece. And too true. I like the comparison between the two.
This is amazing, you captured the feelings so well. Excellent post.
